Afternoon,
OK… this is a fresh one. Shot just this afternoon. The light this afternoon is amazing! After we finished shooting the session I told them I was going to post one… so here is six (out of 800). Afternoon,
Lawna and Jason usually come into the studio just before Christmas. This year we wanted to try something different so I went to them. The three kids were stellar! Leaf fights and running races. I just wanted to post a couple before the weekend. It is going to be a great one! My batteries are all charged and my families are ready. I think I should hit around 4500 frames this weekend. My shutter finger is doing warmup stretches.

Whenever I shoot I tend to see things in chapters... as corny as that can sound. When a family starts out, a wedding is a chapter, a new baby is a chapter and even more babies are a chapter. Jen and Brendan {Wedding Photographers Collingwood}

Afternoon,
Jen and Brendan are getting married soon. Like tomorrow soon. They are getting married at The Beaver Valley Ski Club. It is a gorgeous spot on the Beaver River. We took these shots right where they are going to say their "I Do's". It is actually where they met as ski instructors. I am really quite excited about working with them! Tomorrow is going to be beautiful.

Morning,
I have been thinking lately about my work. Specifically, the style in the way I shoot my portraits. I have been really lucky over the last little while with Families from out West, out East and from around closer to home. I have been asking them about what they think makes a good portrait. The answers have been quite interesting. So I would like to ask all of you… "What do you think makes a good Portrait?" I would love to know your thoughts on this. If I can describe what I am after in the Studio, it is a "quiet" moment (sometimes those quiet moments are kids going crazy). I want to make images that last generations. Looking forward to your view on this.
So… here is Baby Colin with his two big brothers Braden and Evan (and his Mom and Dad). They were a pleasure to shoot. I always ask Clients for a line or two as what it is like here in my Studio. I usually edit the quote to keep it nice and simple. This time however I kept it word for word. A big Thank You to Cassandra!

Angie, Marlee and Marg {Collingwood Photographers}

Evening,
Time is a funny thing. Sometimes it seems to take forever and sometimes it passes in a blink of an eye. We have all had friends way, way back in primary school. Sometimes… if we are lucky, we get to keep these friends as we get to high school. Life though sometimes gets in the way and we loose touch with these friends. As time passes though, sometimes these old friends come back into our lives. We get to connect again and it seems as no time has passed at all. So with that being said… here is my old and very dear friend Angie, her daughter Marlee and Angie's Mom Marg. As Angie and I caught up over some lunches down at Duncan's (the Mulligatawny soup is killer) I already had this portrait shot in my head. It was more than fantastic to have the three of them in my studio. These portraits are going to be archivally printed and framed so that Marlee's grandchildren will be able to see them.

Evening,
Ashley & Christoph… what can I say about a Bride that blows out her knee the night before her wedding and can have the best day. Ashley was amazing to work with (Christoph as well). Everyone from the wedding party, to the families, to all their friends, made this a wonderful wedding to shoot. We cruised around Collingwood before the ceremony so we could make the most of the day, getting awesome shots. Since they were seeing each other before the ceremony a special moment was had with their party and a champagne toast! I have to admit… I had some as well. I also have to admit… I have never had champagne and also that I now LOVE champagne!!! Here are 55 of my favourite images from the 2507 images that they are getting in their package.

Baby Cameron… 15 days early! There is something about a new born. Small and quiet (sometimes), everything about them perfect. Before you know it they have cut their first tooth, sit on their own and say their first words. It was such a great session! We hung out talked parent stuff and shared some homemade cookies. It is always a good idea to keep some treats on hand. It keeps the kids happy and the Dads as well.

Afternoon,
One of the things that I like to do on a Wedding day, is show up a little early. This lets me walk around and hang out to get a feel for the day. I look for little things that will connect me to the day. It is usually a very small and simple detail. I started Sadye and Hazen's day shooting the guys. They were playing an entire playlist of Johnny Cash. Since I LOVE Johnny Cash, that was all I needed. This day had everything… a cute little girl, great families, grandparents, great grandparents, a fun wedding party and an awesome Bride and Groom. Here are 35 of my favourites from the 2400 frames we took.

The Boone Family were absolutely great to shoot for. Celebrating their Mom's birthday, it was a perfect time for a couple of pictures… 676 to be exact. We met up at the family cottage right on the water just after dinner. Here are my favourite 19 shots from the session. All the grand kids were a blast! Good Morning,
So the pressure was on… Julie called and their Family was celebrating their youngest Son's 19th birthday. They wanted a session at home and wanted it to be fun and relaxed. She told me that it was very, very rare that they could all get together at the same time. Like I said the pressure was on. To have a really great session it is a 50/50 partnership. Without everyone on board and relaxed the pictures can look forced. The Kerrs had no problem at all, they were fantastic to work with. Here are my favourite 17 from the 482 proofs they received. Here are a few of my favourites from Ashley and Tyler's engagement session. Shooting a session before the wedding day has become so very important. To work together and see how a couple pose and interact with one another is amazing. This is why with each full day package I always include a full engagement session. With Ashley and Tyler I got to see how easy they were just hanging out with each other. You can't get that from just sitting and talking about taking pictures, you have to go and shoot some. They are a great couple to work with.

Afternoon,
Sadye and Hazen are getting married in 2 days… that is 48 hours. We got together earlier this week to shoot an engagement session. It was a bit of a day as the wind was up and it was raining. So… in between trying to hold an umbrella over my camera, yelling out crazy "Austin Powers" ideas and trying not to break my neck on the rocks, we got some great shots. I am really looking forward to Saturday with the two of them!

Baby Blake {Collingwood Photographers}

Morning,
Jessica and Mike brought in their new little guy Blake. We had a great time in the studio. We even got some little smirks for the little man. This is the second time they have been in to have a session done (the first was with their little girl). The two of them received a great gift certificate from all their friends. Since I don't charge session fees they were able to spread the gift certificate out over 3 sessions. The third session is going to be an outside one later this Summer with all four of them. I am really looking forward to it.

Good Morning,
Kristen called awhile back looking to book a day this Summer for a family reunion. While organizing the family, she decided that her little guy Will needed to come into the studio for a session. He was a great little guy to shoot! We had a great time just hanging out. We took picks of him in his big boy jeans, with some bare skin to show his muscles and then in a special baby sleeper made of wool. We only got a few of Will in the wool because wool on a baby equals boiling hot itchy baby. It made for some good shots that I think will come out when Will is around 18. This is the 3rd time that I have had the pleasure of working with Oliver. While I was getting this Blog ready, I have been thinking about what I was going to say about this little guy. All I can think of is how happy and beautiful he is. So this blog is for his Mom and Dad. Hope you love the photos. It really is an incredible thing, being a Parent. Last week I was dropping my 10 yr old daughter off at the movies. I wasn't going with her as she was having a night out with her friends. As she was walking away, her allowance burning a hole in her pocket, all I could think about was when she was this happy little Baby. Seems like a blink of an eye.

OK… the first thing you notice about Carson is he is a pretty cute little guy. The second thing… his Justin Bieber haircut. Which he totally rocks. The little guy is brand new and already he is part teen idol. Stephanie and Rob are two very lucky parents. We had to take our time with him as the studio flashes were a little tiring for him. That is ok though because he is a teen idol. We got some great shots of the three of them. It is always a great time in the studio getting shots like these for a new Family. Erin & Andy {Collingwood Wedding Photographers}

Afternoon,
Erin and Andy drove up for their Wedding day from Kalamazoo, Michigan. This was a fantastic wedding to shoot. The weather was perfect with lots of snow (not so great for driving but great for shooting) at the base of Blue mountain. I hadn't met them until the day before the wedding, so there was a little bit of nerves. After sitting down for 30 seconds I knew there was nothing to worry about. Everything about their Wedding was perfect… family, friends, great location, great food, great music and lots of cheer. You don't need anything else. What I loved about the two of them is that they were open to getting together the next day to do a bit more shooting. Here are 42 of my favourites from the over 1500 pictures the two of them took home today.

Evening,
I was very much looking forward to meeting Britt. She posed perfectly from the first click of the camera. I have known her Family for quite awhile. Now when I say quite awhile I mean public school quite awhile. This is what makes living in a small Town the most amazing thing. While I am taking pictures of Britt I am thinking of this amazing willow tree that used to be beside her Daddy's house. When you climbed this tree you felt as high as the CN Tower. Britt's Aunt and I have known each other all through grade school and up through High School. It was her that told me, when we were kids, that I should be a photographer. All these memories while taking pictures of this cute little girl. This is why I was really looking forward to meeting Britt.

A Warrant Officer's Girls {Collingwood Photographers}

Good Morning,
I remember the day that Yvonne told me I was going to be a Dad. It was a very exciting 9 months getting ready for the big day that Lydia arrived. I can't imagine having to do what Lily's Daddy had to do while waiting for her. Eric is a Warrant Officer with the Canadian Military. While he and Melissa were expecting, he served his second tour in Afghanistan. 7 and 1/2 months as he said "outside the wire". Lily was born Feb 5th. He calls her his little golfing buddy. He had a good laugh when she had a little pee on her Daddy while we were shooting. It is always a pleasure to photograph a family's portrait... this one was an honour.

BTW... I will let Melissa explain the golf ball. "We were suppose to play Atoka for our second date when I realized I had left my clubs at my parents house. I rushed to the course with golf shoes and a glove in hand to prove to this guy I did play golf honest! So Eric made me think of an activity to do so I said "want to walk the trails?" So we walked behind Cranberry and it was on that path he found the golf ball and gave it to me. I've kept it ever since".

Evening,
Barb and Len came to see me awhile back for their 50th Wedding Anniversary portrait (you can find them in an earlier post). They were at this weekends TSC Black Tie evening. It is safe to say that they are still hot for each other. I have realized lately that a good portrait is a collaboration between the photographer (me) and the subject (you). I have learned this over time with amazing Clients like Len and Barb. My Wife tells me that every time I shoot I am looking for something I want or love. I think she just might be right. After being married for 50 years I would love to be like these two.

The Campbell Family came up to Blue Mountain for a little get away and some R&R. They were a great Family to work with. We started by shooting a series of portraits inside the Hotel then headed outside to have some fun. In the Campbell Family all the Grandkids are older and in University or finishing up High School. Good Morning,
I was really looking forward to meeting Baby Isabel. Before this session her Mom and Dad came in for a Maternity Portrait. Before that session I had the pleasure of shooting Martha and Scott on their Wedding day. It is wonderful to work and be with people during the absolute best chapters of their lives. Kisses, baby toes and a Dad with his hand on his Daughters heart. It doesn't get any better than this.

Having a fun time today printing 16x20's in between portrait sessions. I have always loved printing big prints. Busy weekend with sessions that book right into Monday. I was up at Blue this morning for a portrait consultation and can't believe how much snow there is at the resort. If you are coming up to Collingwood to ski you are going to be amazed! Good Morning,
Well it is one week until Christmas Eve. I have either been chained to my desk printing, in the studio shooting or shovelling snow. I do believe we are going to have a very white Christmas! Here are some of my favourites from a session I had with Eva and her Mom and Dad. Babies are without question the best present that you could ever be blessed with. I still remember Lydia's first Christmas. It was the best Christmas I have ever had.

Here are some of my favourites from the session with Grace. She is adorable. Every now and then I get asked why I don't use many props in my portraits. I always have the same answer... I do use props. Eye lashes, little toes, hands and little wisps of hair. All the props you really need.

I can't believe that it has been 10 days since my last post. To say it has been busy would be an understatement! It has been a fantastic December so far... lots of old and new Families through the studio. Here are some of my favourites of the Scholte family. I have done a little designing with these picks with framing in mind. I am really happy how they turned out. Not that difficult when you are working with kids this cute.

Afternoon,
3 rd blog of the day... you would think it is Winter outside and I am chained to my desk. Karen brought in her two adorable girls into the studio. They are beautiful. I decided to make this post all B&W. I love B&W... with a capital "L' Love. I think it comes from all the hours I spent in my darkroom. I remember my first job working for the photographer Fritz Schuller. He had a hallway lined with B&W portraits. I can still see them now... he was a great Photographer to work for. 3 Little Murphys {Collingwood Photographers}

Afternoon,
Here are the Murphy Kids. While I was getting this Blog ready I was thinking about my Grandparents. I remember my Mum (I'm Scottish and spell it with a U) getting Christmas cards ready with family pictures inside to send back to Scotland. The Murphys's Grandparents are in Montreal and Greece. So how cool is it that here are the Kids for them to have a look at. OK... now I just sound a little on the old side. But it really is pretty amazing. I had a great time with the three of them. While I was taking each of their portraits their Mum used my Daughters book nook to read some stories.

Jennifer and Her Girls {Collingwood photographers}

I loved working with these two girls! They were silly and laughing and hugging the entire time. It always makes for a great Portrait Session when the Studio is filled with giggles. Great weekend! I just shot my last session. Now all I have to do is get caught up on editing, retouching and emails. This is turning out to be an amazing Season.
I have had the pleasure of working with the Farrall Family when there was just two of them, then three, now four. Liam and his little Sister Lauren are beyond cute. I was going to post some of the Family picks but decided to make the post all about the two of them. It is that crazy time of year when the Santa Hats make their appearance. I took some portraits of this little Man last year... he doesn't remember because he was still in his Mom's tummy. He is a great little guy who is soon going to be a big Brother very soon. Little kids always look great in Osh Kosh coveralls (his eye lashes and crazy tuft of hair helps)!

It isn't hard to get shots when you are working with cute kids. Big brother Hayden and baby Jesse did a great job just, being cute. I was a little nervous about this Session since their Mom and Dad were bringing them from Barrie. Sometimes when little ones come into the Studio all the bright lights can stress them out. If that happens we have to re-schedule the Session. I shouldn't have worried because these two were awesome. Here are 6 of my favourite from the 328 proofs their Mom and Dad get to see.

The Sproule Family {Collingwood Photographers}

Afternoon,
There are a few things that make a great Portrait Session. One of those things, is how everyone fits together to make a great shot. I call it putting together the Family puzzle. All I can really say about the Sproule Family is that they came into the Studio already assembled. I have to admit I do like taking pictures of Mom's and Dad's getting squished by their kids.

The lead up to the Christmas/Holiday Season is always a little over whelming. Orders are coming in fast and furious and new shoots to line up. It is an amazing time of year! I am right in the middle of retouching 350 files.

Joely... Round 2 {Collingwood Photographers}

This is the second session with Joely. What can I say about this little girl. She is absolutely beautiful. I am sitting here trying to think of what to say about our Session together. I think though, I will just let my favourites from the 500 frames we took speak for themselves.

This is the third time I have had the pleasure of working with The Kujala Family. When they came to the Studio it was a beautiful day so we decided to head outside for some shots. We then headed back to finish up inside. We got some great shots of the kids as well as Mom and Dad. I think the kids had fun attacking their Mom and Dad.

This was Griffyn's 3rd time sitting for me in the Studio. He is an absolutely amazing baby. To say this little guy is a happy Baby is an understatement. Every time he looked at his Mom he would smile this big one tooth smile. I think he just might be in love with her. We took over 400 pictures of him. I think his Mom and Dad are going to have a hard time choosing.

Diana's Family {Collingwood Photographers}

Evening,
Last month, Diana had asked me to come up to the Family chalet. It is up near the bustling Metropolis of Duntroon. Well, after fighting the gridlock of wild turkeys and the like we had a great Family Session. We took some great shots of everyone... big group shots and individual Families with their kids. The shots I enjoyed the most were of just the kids. When I shoot Sessions like this I am always thinking, these shots are for the Grandkid's, Grandkids. When we are all long gone, hopefully the shots we took will be around to look back on.
I had a really great time.

The Edwards Family {Town of the Blue Mountains Photographer}

A few years back I had the pleasure of shooting the portraits for the Edwards Family. I heard from them again this Fall and that they wanted to shoot a new one. They have a beautiful spot in Thornbury (Town of the Blue Mountains) right on Georgian Bay. It was a beautiful Fall day. They were great to work with as it wasn't easy navigating the rocky beach. Lucas at 6 Months {Collingwood Portrait Photography}

Just in between Sessions today so I thought I would get another post up. This is the 3rd time Lucas has brought his Mom and Dad in for a Session here at the Studio. He is a little guy who always makes me laugh. In between poses his Dad and I get to talk about our love for Heavy Metal Bands (I think I just sounded old saying that). We got some amazing photos of the little Man. Also in on the Session was their beautiful Yellow Lab. After shooting a Baby with a big crazy dog I think all of us needed a nap. April & Ryan {Collingwood Wedding Photographers}

Afternoon,
What can I say about April and Ryan... they are an amazing couple to work with. I knew that it was going to be a pretty special day when we first shot their Engagement Session back in the Spring. They got married this Fall on 10-10-10. It was an an absolutely beautiful day. One of the great things about getting married around Georgian Bay is that we are not short on locations. You can see in the pictures how many different spots we were able to get to... and we were on time for dinner! Here are some of my favourites from over the 2000 picks we took that day.

Here are some of my favourites from a Session with the Edwards Family. This was the second time they had come in. The first time, Baby Ava was still in her Mom's tummy (yes I do say things like "Mom's tummy"). It was great to meet her... she is adorable. I really loved getting portraits of her and her big brother Connor and big sister Julia. My favourite is the one with Julia making a funny face. All three kids did such a great job, they are a joy to shoot.

The Eagles Family {Thornbury Portrait Photography}

Morning,
The Eagles Family is one of the Sessions I have shot over the past few weeks. They are absolutely fantastic to work with. The day of the session was Sunny... and I mean Sunny. Which is nice to play in but for little ones it makes foe squinty faces. All of them were more than willing to drive around the Thornbury area to hit different locations. There are a few ingredients that make a great Session... having a Family willing to hug, run and be silly is one of them. We got some great shots! Here are some of my favourite from the 630 we took.
